
Kenya’s rising stars have proven their dominance in athletics, clinching a remarkable 21 medals at the Eastern Africa Athletics Under-18 and Under-20 Championships held at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar.
The young athletes returned home safely to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), where they were welcomed by Athletics Kenya Youth Development Director Mr. Barnaba Korir, along with other federation officials. The athletes proudly displayed their haul of 12 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals. This impressive achievement not only highlights the exceptional talent of Kenya’s next generation of athletes but also reinforces the nation’s legacy of excellence in track and field.

Mr. Korir emphasized Athletics Kenya’s commitment to its youth development program, which continues to produce top-tier talent in the sport. “This success is a direct result of our ongoing efforts to nurture young athletes across the country. Our youth development program remains at the heart of our strategy, and we are focused on providing the necessary support to ensure that these athletes reach their full potential,” he stated.
He further highlighted the partnership between Athletics Kenya and the Ministry of Sports in establishing 54 holiday training camps across the country. “These camps are designed to give our young athletes the opportunity to hone their skills and receive specialized coaching, helping them to compete at the highest level. We are dedicated to providing the infrastructure and resources necessary for our future champions.”
The triumphant team was also congratulated by Coach Dominic Ondieki, who has been instrumental in guiding the athletes to success.
The Eastern Africa Championships showcased the depth of talent emerging from Kenya, with many of these young athletes expected to rise to the international stage in future competitions.
