Mandatory Anti-Doping Testing for Kenyan Athletes Ahead of Tokyo World Championships

Athletics Kenya (AK) has identified 444 Kenyan athletes worldwide who are required to undergo mandatory testing ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo this September.

AK President, Lt Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei, announced that all athletes will be subject to three unannounced out-of-competition anti-doping tests. “The first mandatory test must be completed by May 24th. All athletes have been informed of these requirements and are expected to comply fully,” Lt Gen (Rtd) Tuwei stated.

He further emphasized that the federation will enforce these requirements strictly. “Athletes are urged to carefully review and follow all instructions. Any athlete who fails to complete the first test will not be eligible to represent Kenya at the Tokyo World Championships, regardless of future tests,” Tuwei added.

Kennedy Mwai, Education Officer at the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), assured that efforts are underway to ensure that athletes outside the country are fully informed of the mandatory testing procedures. “We will conduct a global mapping of Kenyan athletes to ensure they receive the necessary education and awareness on these testing requirements. With the global reach of technology, connecting with these athletes is now more feasible than ever,” Mwai explained.

These stringent anti-doping measures are part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to address its classification in Category A, a designation for countries that face a higher risk of doping offenses.
